Before you program: get the job inputs straight

A short preparation checklist for the model, stock, workholding and tools that shape your milling plan.

Agree on the part you are making

Start with the correct model revision and the information that defines the finished part. Identify the features and surfaces that matter, and note requirements that the model alone may not explain.

A clear input saves confusion later. Keep drawings, tolerance notes and any customer requirements available while you plan the work.

Describe the actual setup

Consider how the part will be held and what the machine can reach. Stock dimensions, fixture locations, datum choices and setup sequence influence the plan. These are job-specific decisions, so confirm them against the real setup.

  • Check the model and drawing revision.
  • Confirm the intended machine and available work envelope.
  • Record stock and workholding information.
  • Identify the intended datum and setup orientations.
  • Check which tools and holders are actually available.

Make unknowns visible

If a tooling or setup detail is undecided, record it as an open question. An unresolved assumption can be harder to spot once it is buried in a sequence of operations.

CAM Wizard is being designed to bring these inputs into a reviewable plan. This checklist is general preparation guidance; the final supported workflow and installation requirements will accompany the release.
